Hp Procurve Spanning Tree

Hp procurve spanning tree troubleshooting

The Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) eliminates Layer 2 loops in networks, by selectively blocking some ports and allowing other ports to forward traffic, based on global (bridge) and local (port) parameters you can configure. This chapter describes how to configure Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) parameters on HP ProCurve Routing Switches. Spanning-Tree problems are typically caused by interfaces flapping and Broadcast Storms. Examples for troubleshooting both of these types of problems follow. Display the Spanning-Tree interface and root information: Switch Rack2sw1 is the root bridge.

  • Group VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) allows automatic learning of VLANs whicheliminates manual configuration of VLANs
  • IP multicast (IGMP) prevents flooding of IP multicast traffic
  • Port security secures network and users from tampering by unauthorized users.
  • Spanning Tree Protocol provides redundant links while preventing network loops.
  • IEEE 802.1p prioritization delivers data to devices based on the priority and type oftraffic
  • TACACS+ eases administration of switch management security by using a passwordauthentication server (visit our Web site for availability of this free software update)
  • 802.1x and RADIUS network login controls access and provides authentication andaccountability for network security (visit our Web site for availability of this free softwareupdate)
