Classy release. Very different to earlier solo efforts and well worth a listen. Quite 'coldplay'ish in mix, very good songwriting though from the silver tongued swedish ex-rocker. Perhaps someday, we'll get another Europe release....one can only hope.

Yes, one can only hope for a Europe reunion! Europe is my favourite band and will always be, but Joey seems to betray his roots completely by releasing this BritPop album,. There are certainly good tracks on it like 'Superhuman', 'Losers', or 'Sometimes' but it just ain't rock.

I suppose in Joey's own words 'nothing is constant except change'. Europe were a fantastic band with some unforgetable tunes and perhaps there will be a chance to see them live again some day..........

Joe tries modern but forgets to write good songs. I want to like this album, but it makes me want to take a nap. There's nothing on this record that grabs me. 5/10.

I don't see why Joeys solo projects always rank under 'heavy' in stores and on the internet. I mean, this ain't hard rock! In my opinion these lyrics are really good, even better than the ones he wrote for Europe, they tended to be kindda mainstream. 'This could be your favourite song, if you let it. Maybe all the chords are wrong, but that's how we made it.' I luv that part! But the music makes me wanna take a nap too. Let's celebrate Europes reunion and hope for good lyrics AND music!

Guys, are you crazy??? Joey Tempest has been one of the most creative rock musicians in the past two decades! His songs now are different from 'classical Hard Rock', but hey, this isn't the 80's anymore!!! Great songs, great production, GREAT ALBUM! In fact, all of his solo albums are really, really good!!! CONGRATULATIONS, JOEY! 9/10

EUROPE singer Joey Tempest recently spoke to France's Le Coin Metal about the band's songwriting process. He said (see video below): 'We tour quite a lot, but we usually write an album — it takes about six months to get the material ready. Then we record it fast — we go into the studio and we record it in about two weeks. And all those decisions are important that happen in those two weeks. All five bandmembers and the producer are locked in [with] one goal: to make the greatest rock album you can. And I like that fast thinking — fast-moving things, just like they did in the '70s. And then we fix a few things and mix it. And then it's out. And then we don't look back. And then we go on the road. And we write together — all of us write together.'

This past July, Tempest confirmed to Finland's Kaaos TV that he and his EUROPE bandmates have 'started talking about' making the follow-up to 2017' 'Walk The Earth' album. 'Everybody is collecting ideas individually,' he said. 'And that's how we start. And sometimes we start something we call the 'Sunday club,' where every Sunday you contribute an idea, we e-mail an idea to each other. So we may do that again. It's kind of good, because it keeps you on your toes, it keeps you producing stuff at home. And then you get the ball rolling. And as soon as you get two or three great ideas going, then it starts rolling. And then you come into that six-month period before the recording, where we meet up and we rehearse together.'

He continued: 'We send a lot of ideas in different ways. We write in many different ways. Me and Mic [Michaeli] meet up sometimes, the keyboard player, and I play drums and sing and he plays keyboards, and we jam for two days straight. So we have 12 to 13 hours of material that I go back to London to sift through. And then I sift through all the jamming bits and I take that bit and that bit and that bit, send it back to Mic and say, 'What do you think of this?' And then we start. That's how a lot of great EUROPE tracks have come about — me and Mic just jamming and picking out the best bits.'

While stressing the importance of improvisation in the studio, Tempest said that 'you should be prepared. You don't wanna waste time in the studio and waste anybody's time. So if you're 75 percent ready, the last bit the producer can help out with or the circumstances, or whatever happens happens in the studio. But we've been so lucky working with Dave Cobb — a great musician and producer and a great guy to just hang with. He's now part of the band. Like he works with RIVAL SONS, he also works with us. He's part of the band when we're in the studio with him. He writes with us. He comes up with great ideas. He sits and plays the songs with us in a circle in the studio before we record it, and then we just slam it down live, three or four takes, and pick the best takes to work on and to finish up. And the nerve is there, the decisions were made right there, and that's how you make great rock records.'

'Walk The Earth' was released in October 2017 via Hell & Back Recordings (Silver Lining Music). It was recorded at famed Abbey Road Studios in London with the aforementioned Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb (RIVAL SONS, Shooter Jennings, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton).
